ISO 12944 - Corrosion protection of steel structures by coating systems

What is ISO 12944?

ISO 12944 is the industry standard for the corrosion protection of steel structures using coating systems. Originally published in 1998, the standard was developed by representatives from major countries and companies involved in the protection of steel structures, with the aim of creating a mutually beneficial standard. The standard is intended to provide guidance to architects, engineers, planners, fabricators, and other stakeholders in the application of coatings to steel.

The standard comprises 9 parts, the main components of which cover classification on the corrosivity category (Part 2), protective coating systems (Part 5), laboratory test procedures (Part 6), and systems and test procedures for offshore structures (Part 9).

Choose your ISO 12944 compliant system in 3 easy steps:

Corrosion protection categories

For all corrosivity categories, the International Paint – AkzoNobel product range offers several suitable coating systems.
In addition to our internal, ISO 9001 certified laboratory tests and on-site performance assessments, AkzoNobel also commissions external testing programs in accordance with the requirements of ISO 12944 for the most common corrosivity categories.
